We also recognize excess CO₂, other GHG emissions, and general resource usage as waste. We practice this by reducing consumption, choosing reusable goods, recycling, composting, and helping each other improve. Our community places a major focus on the 5 R's: refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rot. Beeswax is pretty much inert, it acts more like an occlusive than anything.Being "zero waste" means that we adopt steps towards reducing personal waste and minimizing our environmental impact. Sea buckthorn fruit oil is high in linoleic and alpha-linoleic acid, supposedly good for acne-prone skin due to its anti-inflammatory nature. I can’t find anything that states it protects from UVA better than zinc oxide, or at least it covers the same wavelength range. The sunscreen you tried in the winter, did it have avobenzone in it? That stuff makes me a total greaseball and I feel like I’m overheating, can’t use it. I haven’t worn it enough to decide if it’s causing breakouts, or if it smears off in the humidity. I like the Damascus Rose face sunscreen too, it’s more suitable under makeup. It's 1000% humidity here right now, so they've been put to the test, will definitely repurchase. This one is just about the same as the SPF 35 clear zinc sport, I will wear them both on my face. This one has no PA rating claims, again, not regulated in the US. Also labeled broad spectrum, reef safe, biodegradable, cruelty free. A little greasy, but my face loves sunflower oil. A little white cast at first, but it goes away quickly. It’s a little greasy, only tested it once on face. They do claim it to be PA+++, but there is no regulated system in place for testing in the US, so you’ll have to take their word for it (or not). It is labeled broad spectrum, and exceeds the requirement to be labeled this way. I tried the baby sunscreen SPF 30, but the white cast was too real. Biore UV aqua rich watery essence, Biore UV aqua rich watery gel, Etude House Sunprise mild airy finish sun milk, skin aqua uv moisture milk, my face does not like any of them. I’ve been through many Japanese sunscreens, all of them broke me out. For a while, they were the only sunscreens I wore, but I ended up branching out into more elegant (and expensive) brands so that I can wear them under makeup. I actually love the oils and whatnot in these - I love facial oils and these sunscreens give me comparable daytime effects. I use these as my primary body sunscreens, and sometimes will apply them to my face as well (no adverse effects from doing so I just like the application method of the stick more for face). They all do have whitecasts and are oily, but the price and ingredients are nice. I also love their Sport Sunscreen, Baby Sunscreen, and Tinted Unscented Sunscreen. It's probably the one I go through the most - largely because it's the one I lather on most when out and about (and not too worried about looking perfect). It does have a white-cast, but I feel like I can rub it in enough that it's not too horrible. It's easy to apply, easy to carry, won't randomly leak all over my purse, doesn't count as a liquid for TSA, etc. I personally love their sunscreen stick the most. While I love Badger sunscreens and have a ton of them, I only wear them on makeup-free days and random outings where I don't really care if I have a bit of white-cast or a bit of shine, but, mind you, my skin is shiny anyway. What was the model that was propounded by Stephen Covey in his mega-famous book? We shall begin by trying to understand his model first, and then interpret it in such a way that it pertains to every aspect of our life The only thing is that you have to understand these ideals and try to implement them in your life.īut, before we barge into that area, it is extremely important to understand what these ideals are. If you implement it, there should be no aspect of your life that should go untouched. We are trying to show you how Covey’s book, or rather, his model, was a complete model in itself. There are hidden implications in this book, yes, and a lot of people have just failed to see through them. They do not understand that Covey was trying to tell more than he wrote in words. If you ask them what the seven habits are, they can rattle them off end to end, but then they miss the larger picture. These are people who are impressed by the book already. The second problem is that a lot of people have a myopic view of Covey’s ideals. Or, they take the information and do not make the effort to actually utilize it so that it becomes knowledge for them. They do not realize that this book contains life-changing information. They consider his masterpiece of a book as a mere coffee-table book or a book that you use for light reading when you are traveling and then forget all about it. The first problem is that most people are too lazy to implement the ideals of Stephen Covey in their lives. There are two main problems here, and we are talking only about the people who have read the book already. Now, I am not saying that by using Covey’s model, or anyone else’s model for that matter, you can become a sure-shot success, but at least we should have seen many more successes around us already judging by the number of copies the book has sold! So, where is the shortcoming? This is definitely true because we still see so much failure all around us. This book was wonderful education for people, education in how to live life effectively and get closer to the ideal of being a ‘success’ in life.īut not everyone understands Stephen Covey’s model fully well, or maybe there are some people who haven’t read it yet. Take control of your life, identify the things that matter to you most (begin with the end in mind), and prioritize your life so those “first things” stay first. When Stephen Covey first released The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, the book became an instant rage because people suddenly got up and took notice that their lives were headed off in the wrong direction and more than that, they realized that there were so many simple things they could do in order to navigate their life correctly. Putting first things first takes focus and courage, but usually the hardest things are the ones that make the biggest differences in our lives. Habit 3 often seems to be the hardest one to stick to. We are the captain of our lives (Habit 1–be proactive). We must not let fear or other people make decisions for us. It takes a lot of courage to identify and stay true to our “first things”. If we intentionally carve out the time to do our most important things first, we make sure those get done and everything else falls in to the extra time.Īlong with planning, we have to overcome fear and peer pressure. Blocking out time for those things is the next step. The first step is to identify the things we want to accomplish that week. Weekly planning can make a huge difference in our lives. Establishing a powerful habit of planning ahead, and then DOing the work is critical to our ultimate success. Making lists, goals, and planning ahead to prioritize our lives–making sure first things get done first–is how we accomplish the things we really want to accomplish. Quadrant 2 is made of things that are important but not urgent (because we don’t let them become urgent by procrastinating). We each spend some time in all four of the quadrants but the real key to success is to spend as much time as possible in Quadrant 2, the Prioritizer. Sean Covey breaks down the way we spend our time into four different quadrants. Habit 3 helps us figure out how to make those things a priority in our lives. Habit 2, begin with the end in mind, helps us figure out what the most important things are. It helps us learn to prioritize and manage our time so the things that matter the very most get done. That’s why the third habit of effective teens is so incredibly important. Teens (and adults) are multi-tasking more than any other generation and time has become a precious commodity. The truth is, teens today are simply facing a different kind of hard. It’s been said that teens today aren’t faced with the same kind of hard work as teens in generations past. The third habit of the 7 Habits of Highly effective Teens is to Put First Things First. 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens–Put First Things First In July 2014, EQT Partners purchased Bureau van Dijk from Charterhouse backed by an 845 million-euro equivalent leveraged loan financing. īureau van Dijk was then sold to Charterhouse Capital Partners in July 2011, backed with 505 million euros of leveraged loans, including 365 million euros of senior loans and 140 million euros of mezzanine debt maturing in 2019. The other 40% was then thought to be owned by the management. Ĭandover acquired a 60% stake in Bureau van Dijk in 2004 after founder and chairman Bernard Van Ommeslaghe, who was 70, decided to sell part. The owners of Bureau van Dijk were private individuals who were also members of the management and board, and the company has since been sold. In 1991, a second company, "Bureau van Dijk Electronic Publishing", was formed to assume responsibility for updating and expanding these databases, while the consulting division remained grouped within the company Bureau van Dijk Ingénieurs Conseils. In 1987, Bureau van Dijk took the pioneering role in Europe by launching a new activity: the design and dissemination on CD-ROM (the precursor to Bureau van Dijk's online databases) of economic and financial databases with information on companies. In 1985, on the retirement of Marcel van Dijk, Professor Bernard van Ommeslaghe and Alain Liedts took over the company and extended its operations to include management consulting, auditing and IT support. In 1972, its activities were further deployed in the two companies established in Paris and Brussels. Belgian businessman Marcel van Dijk established a company specialising in documentary and information systems, named "Bureau Marcel van Dijk". The origin of Bureau van Dijk dates back to the 1970s. The company regularly blogs content and white papers, offering free resources on compliance and other risk areas. The company brand statement is "The Business of Certainty". Bureau van Dijk claims to offer the most powerful comparable resource of information on private companies in the world. The company has over 5,000 clients including banks, insurance companies, financial and consulting organisations, governments and research institutes. Product management and software development are based in the Geneva and Brussels offices. It also has a team of journalists writing news stories on deals and market rumours. and Zurich.īureau van Dijk's research team collects both global M&A data and intelligence around corporate ownership structures, and is based in Manchester, Brussels and Singapore. Note: We used a fan oven where the recommended temperature for the Victoria sponge recipe was 160☌. The middle of the cake was soft textured, but the base and edges were much harder. Its rise was uneven – much greater in the centre – and there were lots of surface cracks. The surface colour was too dark and the cake was burnt around the edges. Using exactly the same recipe, we baked four cakes at different temperatures, ranging from 20☌ under the recommended temperature to 40☌ too hot. To test how much difference an oven with poor temperature controls can make to your cooking, we ran a test in which we baked a classic Victoria sponge. Some have even veered more than 40☌ above the set temperature. We've tested hundreds of ovens and found that many don't stick to the temperature you set them at. How oven temperature affects cooking and bakingĭo you blame yourself when your sponge cake fails to rise or you burn your biscuits? It might not be you. But if it's a larger gap – or the temperature fluctuates a lot during cooking – you could be in for some disappointing results. You can adapt to an oven if it averages just a handful of degrees away from the correct temperature, by turning it up or down a little. Just make sure you leave the thermometer in each area for at least 10 minutes before checking for changes. You can position the thermometer in different areas of your oven to test the temperature and find hot or cold spots. The best way to verify the accuracy of your oven's temperature is to check it with a separate stainless steel oven thermometer. The amount by which the least accurate ovens we've tested exceed the set temperature Oven thermometersĪll ovens have built-in thermometers. One of the ovens we've recently tested was set for 180☌, but we measured the temperature in part of the oven to be just 150☌. While it's more common for an oven to overshoot the temperature you set it at, we do also find models that struggle to get up to the right temperature. We sometimes come across ovens that soar to 220☌ when set at 180☌. But, unfortunately, this doesn't mean they get the basics right. Ovens often have all sorts of hi-tech features including steam cooking and self-cleaning, and some can even be controlled remotely by an app on your phone. How can I check if my oven temperature is accurate? Some will offer two, though – a hotter temperature for traditional ovens and a cooler one for fans. It's always worth double-checking your recipe, as not adjusting the temperature to account for this effect can cause the outside of your food to cook too quickly and spoil your dish.Īs most ovens are fan assisted these days, you can usually assume that a recipe that only suggests one oven temperature is referring to fan ovens. This is because the fan circulates hot air around the inside of the oven and into the food, ensuring a more even temperature and food that's cooked more quickly. Why are fan oven temperatures lower?įan oven cooking temperatures are typically around 20☌ less than conventional ovens. Using our chart, you can quickly see that 180☌ is gas mark 4 and 200☌ is gas mark 6. If you own a gas cooker or gas oven, you will sometimes need to convert oven temperatures when cooking a recipe, which is when our oven temperature conversion chart will come in handy. The gas mark is a temperature scale used on gas cookers and gas ovens in the UK, Ireland and some Commonwealth countries. Gas mark: what gas mark are 180 or 200 degrees Celsius? For cakes, bakes, biscuits and more, see BBC Good Food's baking recipes. Want to put your oven to best use? If you're looking for weekend ideas, see BBC Good Food's roast recipes. That gives us a 2x4 length of 94.5" for the wider ramps and 46.5" for the shorter ones. The next step is to cut all of the 2x4s that will be used to frame each quarter pipe, so to get the right length we have to subtract the width of each of the 3/4" plywood transitions, which means subtracting 1.5". We'll then bolt one of each together to give us a 12' wide ramp. We're building four quarter pipes: two that are 8' wide and two that are 4' wide. Once everything is laid out, we then cut the shape out with a jigsaw and use it as a template to mark the other seven pieces and cut them all out, being careful to get them all as close to the same as we can. There is a small notch for the coping where that top-line meets the slope that is 1.25" tall and 1.75" deep. Next, we measure the back side to 2' 11.25" up from the bottom and then square that line across until it meets the curve we just drew. (This part is easier to see and understand if you watch the video from Step One.) We'll then measure a 6' length of string and tie a pencil to the end and use it to draw the radius on the wood. Once we have it marked, we'll put in a screw and then tie a string to it. Since 2x4s are 3.5" wide, this will give us a 6' radius slope. To lay them out, we start by putting two sheets side by side on the ground and marking the pivot point which is 6' 3.5" from the bottom and 2" in from the side. These are cut from 3/4" plywood and we can get two transitions from one 4' x'8' sheet. For this ramp, we're building four different quarter pipes and each one has a transition on each side. The first bit of construction is to layout and cut the sloped transitions that make up the sides of the ramp. To help keep it level for a long time we put a 3-4" thick layer of gravel underneath each of the footings.įor the rest of the ramp, we'll put 2" thick concrete pavers every 4 feet along the length of the ramp. We use a line level to ensure all 4 corners are level with each other, as well as square and evenly spaced.īecause the ramp is heavy, the foundation will settle a bit over time. Because our yard slopes downhill, the ones at the top get buried quite a bit and the ones at the other end are above ground. We start by laying out exactly where it will go in the yard and then use Concrete Footings (12" x 12" x 8") and put one at each corner. In our case, our yard is neither flat nor level so we had to fix that. It's important that the ramp sits on level ground, so in a perfect world, it would sit either on a flat concrete pad or at the least on a wide level space. Whatever the exact size of your ramp, you're going to need a flat piece of ground to put it. The ramp we're building is 3 feet high, 12 feet wide and 24 feet long.

That moment came for the modeling industry in 1974, when Beverly Johnson became the first African-American woman to grace the cover of Vogue."Forty-six years after my Vogue cover, I want to move from being an icon to an iconoclast and continue fighting the racism and exclusion that have been an ugly part of the beauty business for far too long," Johnson wrote. The model proposed a hiring guideline for Condé Nast to increase Black representation in influential positions called the "Beverly Johnson rule," which requires "at least two black professionals to be meaningfully interviewed for influential positions." The cover, which hits newsstands on Tuesday, features models Adut Akech, Amar Akway, Majesty Amare, Akon Changkou, Maty Fall, Janet Jumbo, Abny Nhial, Nyagua Ruea and Anok Yai."But as the national conversation around racism expands, stories about discrimination in the fashion industry and at Vogue, in particular, have come under the spotlight." "My debut was meant to usher in a current of change in the fashion industry," Johnson wrote in her op-ed.Johnson wrote a Washington Post op-ed published Thursday, in light of an email sent Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, who acknowledged the lack of Black representation at the magazine and promised to improve structural exclusion at Vogue.
